100 SCANIA LNG trucks for KP Logistics, Germany

Scania Germany, has received a Major Order for 100 Scania LNG tractor units from KP Logistics, a freight forwarder, headquartered in Stavenhagen, Mecklenburg. The company, a third generation family business from Denmark that opened its German operation in 1990, has ordered 100 Scania R 410 LNG powered by Liquefied Natural Gas. The tractor units with 410 HP Six-cylinder gas engine will be split evenly between the two KP logistics sites in Stavenhagen and Wustermark near Berlin and used for Food transport.

"With the strategic purchase of these LNG vehicles, we want to be pioneers in environmental protection and set an example in the Freight Forwarding world. The natural gas trucks emit about a 20% less CO2 compared to diesel vehicles. The reduction can be as high as 90% when we use Biomethane as fuel. This greatly improves our Climate Balance, "says David Brokholm, Managing Director of KP Logistics GmbH.  In addition, gas engines emit significantly less Nitrogen Oxides,  and Particulate Matter than their diesel counterparts.

"We were very pleased with the large order and the trust placed in us by the Management of KP Logistics," said Christian Hottgenroth, Director Sales of Trucks, Scania Deutschland Austria. Since the decision of the German Bundestag to exempt gas-powered vehicles from tolls from 1 January 2019, we have been recording a constant increas in the interest in our LNG vehicles. This Order is the largest Order for LNG trucks we have received so far, "said Hottgenroth.

In addition to the environmental aspect, the purchas will also pay off from an economic point of view for KP Logistics. The Euro 6 gas engine also complies with the requirements of the PIEK Noise Protection Directive, which provides maximum Noise levels in noise-sensitive Areas such as inner Cities and Residential Areas of 72 dB (A).

The first of the 100 Scania LNG Semi-tractors ordered will be delivered to KP Logistics in May this year. By August at the latest, the entire LNG fleet will be operational by the Food Transport Specialist.

KP Logistics initially gets the LNG from a mobile LNG tank system that Liquind Supplies from Berlin. By the Summer, a fixed LNG filling station is to be built in GVZ Wustermark and Stavenhagen, which will also be used by third-party customers. It is expected that there will be about 20 LNG service stations in Germany by the End of 2019. The LNG filling station network is to be gradually expanded.
