Engie will invest $ 35 million dollars in Natural Gas stations in Mexico

The company will invest 35 million dollars (mdd) in the construction and operation of natural gas (NGV) stations for vehicles over the next five years.

The plan considers opening 20 stations in Veracruz and Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Tabasco, Campeche and Tlaxcala, State of Mexico, Tamaulipas, Puebla, Querétaro and Jalisco where Engie also has natural gas distribution networks.

The French company recently opened its first station in the port of Veracruz. This first facility resulted from the purchase of 70% of the capital of the Mexican company Gaseco Golfo. With the gas station coming into operation, Veracruz public transport will have access to a fuel that emits 80% less polluting particles and generates economic savings of approximately  45% when compared to conventional fuels, the company said.

“The development of the NGV business will allow us to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable transport, mitigating CO2 emissions and particulate matter in cities and territories; besides contributing to the development of a greener economy in favor of final consumers, companies and governments, ”said Fernando Tovar, CEO of Engie Mexico.

"We know that Veracruz, in addition to having the most important commercial port in Mexico, is an entity of great importance for the Mexican energy sector, which is why we intend to join the development by offering a valuable energy alternative," said Alberto Santoyo Vidaurreta , Partner and Director of ENGIE GNV.

The entry into operation of the Veracruz station enriches Engie's portfolio of services in the value chain of Natural Gas in Mexico: Natural gas commercialization, transport, distribution, Compressed Natural Gas, electricity generation and now, Vehicular Natural Gas.
