73 CNG new buses for Northern Mallorca

Mallorca's Mobility and Housing Councilor Marc Pons and the General Manager of Mobility, Jaume Mateu, the president of Confebús Rafael Barbadillo and Gregorio Ruiz of the transport concessionary company Grupo Ruiz, have today presented the new interurban public transport service to be offered in the northern part of Mallorca. The opening of the event was made by the mayor of Alcúdia, Barbara Rebassa, who spoke before all the mayors of the twenty-six municipalities of the area.

The presentation highlighted some of the improvements in the coming transport system. For example, frequencies will be increased in some of the lines, such as the one that connects Palma with Playa de Muro or Palma with Puerto de Pollença and there will be new connections such as the line that connects Muro, Sa Pobla with the bay of Alcúdia.

In particular, it has been explained that all the service in the northern area will be made with 73 new buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and 9 electric buses which will be tested.

The president of Confebús Rafael Barbadillo added: "I want to congratulate the Balearic Government for the magnificent work they have done, since it involves betting on sustainable mobility and is a benchmark for public-private collaboration"

Two gas stations will be built in the industrial estates of Ca na Lloreta d'Alcúdia and the industrial estate of Inca in order to supply gas to the new fleet. The Sa Tàpia de Palma industrial estate will also be equipped with a gas fueling station.

The new gas stations will not be used exclusively for public buses; they will be used also to fuel private vehicles. The Government trusts that the private bus fleet will join the model.
